Pip and Bramble

a story for little ears (2–5 years)
🌿

Pip was a small bird with a bright voice and a habit of noticing things.

She noticed when the wind changed. She noticed when a flower opened. And she noticed when Bramble the hedgehog was trying very hard to gather berries for winter.

Bramble was slow and careful. He moved through the grass with patience, but the best berries were always just out of reach — too high, too hidden, or tucked behind thorns.

Pip watched from her branch.

She did not fly down and take over. She did not carry the berries for him.

She simply chirped:

“A little to the left, Bramble — there is a bush with the sweetest ones.”

Bramble followed her voice, and found the berries he would have missed.

He looked up and gave a small nod.

Pip chirped again, and went back to watching the sky.

🍂

A few days later, the wind grew strong. Pip’s nest wobbled and swayed. She tried to hold it together, but her branches were loose.

Bramble noticed.

He could not climb the tree. But he found a fallen branch with soft moss, and pushed it toward the base of the tree — where Pip could reach it.

She looked down and saw him.

She did not say thank you with words. She simply flew down, took a piece of the moss, and began to line her nest.

And Bramble went back to gathering berries.

They did not need to speak.

They understood each other.
